Under the framework of outcome-based education (OBE), this paper discusses the teaching reform and design of English for students majoring in visual communication design. It analyzes the present situation and points out existing problems, such as students’ability differences, vague teaching objectives, outdated textbooks, inflexible teaching methods, and unreasonable assessments. To address these problems, this paper proposes an OBE-aligned teaching objective: to improve students’ comprehensive skills and independent learning skills. Then, teaching content and methods are devised in detail, which emphasize practical application, fun in learning, revision of teaching content, covering four areas (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), pay attention to students’actual learning outcomes and comprehensively reflect their improvement of knowledge, skills, and qualities; At the same time, the importance of curriculum resource construction and teacher team cultivation was emphasized, and suggestions were put forward for textbook writing, extracurricular resource construction, and teacher professional competence improvement, in order to provide reference for the reform of visual communication design professional English teaching.
