Design and Practice of Project-Based Teaching for “Rail Vehicle Transmission and Control” in Transportation Engineering

Abstract: The course“rail vehicle transmission and control”as a core interdisciplinary subject in transportation engineering, faces challenges in traditional teaching methods, such as outdated content, weak practical components, and a singular evaluation system. Based on the concept of project-based learning (PBL), this study designs four parallel practical projects tailored to the course characteristics, enhancing students'engineering practice skills and innovative thinking through task-driven approaches. The project design is oriented toward real-world engineering problems, integrating simulation verification and teamwork while covering key knowledge points. During implementation, group-based, phased progression and a diversified evaluation system were adopted to optimize the teaching support framework. Practical results demonstrate that project-based teaching effectively bridges the gap between theory and practice, improving students'comprehensive competencies and adaptability to industry demands.
