Abstract: Foundation pit engineering design and construction is a particular elective course for civil engineering majors. This course's teaching and assessment methods focus on classroom teaching and final centralized examination without distinguishing students'majors and mastering basic knowledge. To cultivate applied talents in civil engineering, this article takes Hunan Institute of Science and Technology as an example, aiming at the problems of the single assessment form, rigid examination method, and limited assessment content in the assessment of foundation pit engineering courses, while reforming and innovating teaching methods, we should also improve the course assessment methods and establish a full process assessment model to promote the development of engineering majors, improve the quality of talent cultivation in engineering majors, and provide reference for other course reforms.
