Abstract: Currently, higher education is transforming from knowledge-imparting type to ability-oriented type. Cultivating students'innovative and practical abilities has become one of the key points of teaching reform in colleges and universities. Mechanics, as a basic course for engineering majors, its competition activities are highly comprehensive and practical, and it is an important platform for enhancing students'innovative consciousness and comprehensive quality. This paper takes the mechanics competition as the carrier to explore the cultivation path of college students'innovative practical ability, analyze the problems existing in the current competition mechanism, and propose a four-in-one ability cultivation model of“course - competition - project - scientific research”. The research results show that a systematic and diversified mechanics competition training system can effectively enhance students'innovative thinking, engineering practice and interdisciplinary collaboration ability, providing a new path for improving the quality of talent cultivation in colleges and universities.
