Research on the Current Status, Problems, and Countermeasures of Professional Development of Teachers in Private Undergraduate Universities

Abstract: High-quality and specialized teaching staff is the key elements of schooling quality and the lifeblood of sustainable development. At the very period of high-quality developing and transforming of private undergraduate university, improve teachers’professional levels appear extremely important. Based on teacher’s career stage theory, the study analyzes the characteristic of each career stage, which is a guide for analyzing the current situation and problems of teachers’ professional development. Study shows, most teachers are at the medium stage of professional development. Their developing processes are slowly, intrinsic motivations are insufficient and lack of outside boosts. Schools should try to promote teachers' professional development by enhancing their awareness of being the main body of professional development, strengthening their professional development assistance, and enhancing the effectiveness of teaching reflection.
