Enlightenment of Schema Theory to English Reading Teaching

Abstract: Reading is an important way of language input as well as a comprehensive activity of language and thinking. For a reader, how much the background knowledge of language and culture (original schema) he has is closely related to the correct understanding of the text. In reading teaching it is an important task to help students improve their decoding ability to the articles and to improve the ability of affective interaction between readers and authors. This paper mainly discusses the influence of schema theory on reading teaching, and it deals with how to use schema theory to help students activate the original schemas, enrich them, create and consolidate new schemas, at the same time it also discusses the cultivation of students' skills in calling on their schemas, so as to further improve the comprehensive ability of students' reading comprehension.
