Abstract: With the wide application of electronic design competition in engineering education, how to use the competition to drive the innovation of teaching mode has become an important topic to improve students'innovation ability and practical ability. This paper discusses the innovation and practice of the experimental teaching mode of independent innovation inside and outside the class driven by the electronic design competition, and studies the influence of this mode on students'learning ability, innovation ability and interdisciplinary cooperation ability. The electronic engineering students in a university were selected as the research object, and the experimental design method of control group and experimental group was adopted to implement the traditional teaching mode and competition-driven teaching mode respectively, and the effects of the two modes were compared through quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results show that the competition-driven teaching model significantly enhances students'innovative design, teamwork and interdisciplinary integration. Finally, the advantages of this model are summarized, and the improvement strategies in the practical teaching and the enlightenment for the future are discussed, so as to provide a reference for the teaching reform.
