Abstract: The design series courses are an essential component of the core curriculum in urban and rural planning programs. In the new era, the national spatial planning system assumes the application of GIS theory and technology, presenting new challenges for industry development. Exploring suitable teaching models for GIS courses and establishing a collaborative relationship between urban and rural planning design courses and GIS courses will help enhance students'learning outcomes and professional capabilities. This study starts from the current situation of GIS course teaching and focuses on exploring the structural design of teaching models that integrate GIS courses with urban and rural planning design series courses, addressing the issues of traditional GIS courses. Guided by teaching objectives, it aims to reconstruct course content, reform and improve the evaluation criteria for the teaching process, and gradually build a GIS teaching system integrated with the collaborative design series of urban and rural planning programs, with the goal of cultivating innovative talents that meet the demands of the times.
