Practical Exploration of the Project-Driven, Thesis-Oriented Progressive and Stratified Cultivating Mode for Undergraduate Tutorial System—A Case Study of English Majors

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to construct the Progressive and Stratified Cultivating Mode (PSCM) for undergraduate tutorial system in order to enhance students’academic innovation and research ability. A case study of undergraduate English majors of the School of Foreign Languages, Shanxi University, is carried out to provide an overall plan for research training over the four years of university education: in the lower grades, the mode is driven by college students’innovative entrepreneurial training plan project, aiming to enhance students’language sensitivity and language analysis skills; in the higher grades, the focus shifts towards thesis writing, extracting academic innovation points. This mode offers effective solutions to problems in tutorial system, providing new insights for cultivating talents with academic innovation.
