The Relationship between General Sense of Belonging and Innovation Ability of Home Economics Major College Students: The Mediating Role of Innovative Self-Efficacy

Abstract: ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between general sense of belonging and innovation ability of undergraduates majoring in home economics, and the mediating role of creative self-efficacy between them. MethodsThe Innovation Ability Questionnaire, Creative Self-efficacy Scale and General Sense of Belonging Scale were used to investigate 249 students majoring in home economics. ResultsCreative self-efficacy and general sense of belonging were significantly positively correlated with innovation ability (r=0.73,P<0.01; R = 0.21, P< 0.01). General sense of belonging was significantly positively correlated with creative self-efficacy (r=0.17, P<0.01). General sense of belonging significantly positively predicted innovation ability (β=0.21, P<0.01), and creative self-efficacy significantly positively predicted innovation ability (β=0.72, P<0.001). Creative self-efficacy plays a partial mediating role between general sense of belonging and innovation ability. ConclusionThe general sense of belonging not only directly affects the innovation ability of home economics major students, but also indirectly affects their innovation ability through creative self-efficacy. To enhance the general sense of belonging and creative self-efficacy of home economics major students is conducive to the cultivation of their innovative ability.
