Abstract: The implementation of the Healthy China strategy has shifted the focus of China's health system from disease-centered treatment to preventive care and whole-life-cycle health management. Within this transition, eye health has expanded from clinical correction to a broader agenda that includes public health intervention and population-based vision protection. Drawing on an analysis of the competency requirements for optometry professionals under this national strategy, this study argues that talent cultivation should emphasize multi-dimensional professional literacy, public health awareness, and technological sensitivity. Correspondingly, it proposes training pathways driven by authentic clinical immersion, community-based public service participation, and technology-supported innovative learning environments. The goal is to cultivate high-quality optometry professionals capable of meeting national development needs and adapting to industry transformation, thereby offering a reference for reform in optometry education within higher institutions in China.
