Abstract: The thesis writing course is key for cultivating academic ability of English majors in private colleges. Based on teaching practice of Mianyang City College, this paper analyzes difficulties: students'lack of problem awareness, weak critical thinking, insufficient literature analyzing ability, and disconnection between course objectives and practice. Referring to relevant studies, it proposes measures like optimizing curriculum system, innovating teaching methods, strengthening practical training, improving evaluation mechanism, and integrating ideological and political education, aiming to improve teaching quality and cultivate students'academic writing ability and scientific research literacy.
