Abstract: With the deepening of teacher education reform in the new era, English normal students are expected to develop both core competencies and educational competencies as future teachers. Against this backdrop, this study takes the English majors at a certain University as an example to explore the improvement pathways for the practical teaching abilities of normal students from the perspective of core competency. A “PRACTICE +” teaching paradigm for practical training at a certain University has been constructed, which includes eight dimensions: professionalism-highlighted nurturing, research-based practice, apprenticed model, collaborative platform, technological integration, immersive experience, critical reflection, and effective evaluation. By optimizing the curriculum system, strengthening practical teaching, and promoting collaboration between the university and external entities, this model effectively addresses the issue of enhancing practical teaching abilities in traditional English normal education. It provides a reference for the cultivation of English normal students in local universities and offers valuable insights for the reform of teacher education.
