Abstract: The traditional experimental teaching of econometrics is based on verification experiments, but self-directed experimental teaching is the current trend of cultivating compound talents. This study compares the effectiveness of validation experiments and self-directed experiments on teaching international economics and trade and accounting students in a 211 undergraduate college with 61 students in the class of 2021 in international economics and trade and 93 students in accounting. The results showed: (1) There was no statistically significant difference between the students'perceptions of the effectiveness of two types of experimental teaching, but the accounting students were more satisfied with the process and results of the self-directed experiments; (2) Experimental teaching is an effective method to improve the learning effect of econometrics, and the reform of experimental teaching has important practical significance; (3) Students'ability to learn on their own and understand classroom instruction affects the learning outcomes of lab classes. Econometrics educators are required to think about how to better bridge classroom and laboratory instruction.
