Abstract: With the deepening of China's higher education reform, cultivating undergraduate research abilities has become an important task of the reform. With the help of the undergraduate tutorial system reform implemented by Harbin Engineering University, this article mainly explores the role of the undergraduate tutorial system in solving the problem of cultivating undergraduate research abilities. It further finds that there are problems of imbalanced teacher-student ratio, a lack of normalized communication mechanism between teachers and students, and a lack of incentive and assessment mechanism. It proposes suggestions including building a“1+1+N”tutor team for finance specialty, establishing a normalized communication mechanism, stimulating student research autonomy, and constructing incentive and assessment mechanisms for undergraduate supervisors.
