The Impact of Project Based Learning (PBL)-Based STEM Education on the Academic Performance and Career Interest of Technical College Students

Abstract: STEM education (science-technology-engineering-mathematics) is an innovative comprehensive education that integrates multiple disciplines. This paper investigates the impact of project-based curriculum (PBL) STEM on the academic achievements and career interests of technical college students. This study applied a single group of pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research method, and the subjects of the study were 15 students of the 2-3 grades at the technical skill club of Applied Biology department of the technical college. Two types of tests: STEM Academic Achievement Test (STEM-AAT) and STEM Career Interest Scale (STEM-CIS) were applied in this study, and pretest and posttest were taken before and after the course started, the results were calculated. The results of the research showed that students’ academic achievements in the biological experimental course have been significantly improved, and their interest in future careers has also developed in a positive direction.
