Abstract: Under the background of a large number of non-normal university doctors pouring into teaching posts, young college teachers' basic teaching skills are relatively weak and their classroom teaching ability needs to be improved. Compared with the traditional methods such as pre job training, observation and listening, teaching competition puts forward higher requirements for young teachers' teaching ability in a more direct and guiding way. Through the experience of teaching competition, young teachers can quickly find the shortcomings in the teaching process, refine the teaching content, optimize the teaching design and upgrade the teaching methods, so as to improve their teaching professional quality and classroom teaching ability more quickly and comprehensively. Taking the safety assessment course as an example, this paper explores how to improve the classroom teaching ability of young teachers from six aspects, which separately are teaching content, teaching organization, language teaching mode, teaching characteristics, teaching design scheme and teaching reflection.
