Abstract: Crystal optics is a subject that studies some optical phenomena (color, refraction, birefringence, interference, etc.) produced by visible light through transparent crystals and their laws. It is one of the basic courses for geology, geochemistry and resource exploration. The goal is to train students to master the basic principles and methods of studying and identifying transparent minerals under polarized light microscope, and to be familiar with the optical properties of some common rock-forming minerals. According to the different optical properties of different crystals, transparent minerals can be identified, and relevant minerals can be quantitatively and semi-quantitatively analyzed. Adhering to the teaching guiding ideology of "strengthening foundation, strengthening application, encouraging innovation and reflecting characteristics", it lays a solid foundation for strengthening the basic ability of geological science research and mineral resources exploration.
