Abstract: As the main body of innovation in the future, college students are an important force to promote the innovation and development of science and technology. As a platform for cultivating future innovation subjects, colleges and universities play an important role in innovation and development. The maker education in colleges and universities in China started late. The development of maker education in colleges and universities at this stage is not mature. There are still many problems in the development process. Based on the background of "new engineering", this paper analyzes and summarizes from three aspects: the lack of innovation and entrepreneurship consciousness of college students, the imperfection of maker curriculum system and the lack of teachers of maker education in colleges and universities, and puts forward some suggestions the corresponding measures are put forward to guide the development of maker education in colleges and universities.
