Abstract: The tutorial system has been gradually applied to undergraduate education. It effectively improves the quality of undergraduate education. However, there are still some deficiencies existing in the system. This paper takes the major of mining engineering as an example. The problems of undergraduate graduation design under the tutorial system are analyzed. The analysis results show that the problems are mainly reflected in four aspects. The lack of innovation leads to overall bad quality of the graduation design. The number of tutors is not enough and their guidance is commonly finished in nominal terms. In addition, the schedule of the graduation design is usually unreasonable. Finally, the quality of topic selection for the graduation design is relatively low. In view of these problems, some effective measures are put forward to improve the quality of graduation design. It can be combined with the engineering practice and new technologies. The guidance methods of the tutor should be diversified. At the same time, the schedule of graduation design needs to be improved and the pertinence of topic selection needs to be strengthened. The graduation design reward mechanism should also be established. With these measures, the quality of undergraduate students can be ensured.
