Abstract: The engineering mechanics course taught entirely in English is the core course of the civil engineering and International Architecture programs jointly offered by North China University of Technology. This article summarizes the problems of weak foundation and insufficient learning motivation among some students based on the characteristics of the English course of engineering mechanics. It introduces the core concept of the golden circle rule and applies it to the teaching practice of zero bar judgment in truss structures, proposing three questions: what is a zero bar, how to quickly distinguish a zero bar, and why a zero bar is needed. Teaching practice has shown that the combination of the golden circle rule in the teaching of engineering mechanics in the whole English curriculum helps to strengthen students'foundation, improve learning interest and learning quality. It is a beneficial attempt for curriculum teaching innovation.
