Abstract: The rapid evolution of society has intensified the demand for transformation in English programs. Changes in social needs have created significant employment challenges for English graduates, highlighting the problem of a disconnect between academic training and practical demands. To address this issue, the new liberal arts approach, which emphasizes interdisciplinary integration, fosters innovation, and promotes practice-oriented learning, provides novel directions for the field of English education. This paper explores the role of the new liberal arts in cultivating talent within application-oriented undergraduate English programs, aligning with national strategies, student needs, and technological development trends. Systematic reform strategies are proposed to enhance competitiveness, facilitate the transformation of application-oriented undergraduate English programs, and explore distinctive development paths.
