Abstract: The objective of the study was to analyze and evaluate the application effect of improving scientific research and clinical ability of medical undergraduates based on animal disease model construction. A rat model of cavernous nerve injury related erectile dysfunction was established by medical undergraduates in the early stage to evaluate its influence on the students' scientific research and clinical ability. At the same time, a questionnaire survey was conducted to evaluate students' satisfaction with the teaching model. After the construction of animal disease model, the students' scientific research ability was significantly improved (28.69±2.46 vs 22.38±3.37, P < 0.01). Also, the clinical ability of surgical hand washing (8.12±1.07 vs 5.81±0.75, P < 0.01), suture and knotting (45.38±5.66 vs 36.96±4.60, P < 0.01) were significantly improved, respectively. The satisfaction survey shows that most students believe the teaching mode can effectively improve their scientific research and clinical level. The animal disease model training can effectively improve the scientific research and clinical ability of medical undergraduates, and has been recognized by the students.
