Abstract: Obtaining high-quality genomic information through genome assembly technology is the premise of fungal genomic research. In recent years, this technology has been widely used in the genomic research of microorganisms. In order to popularize this technology in undergraduate teaching, the College of Agriculture of Guizhou University used the college-level course Agricultural Microbiology to devise an open-ended experiment for students of undergraduate majors of plant protection. The experiment included the use of HGAP4, Canu, and MECAT to assemble the genome of Fusarium oxysporum. Data sequencing was carried out followed by integration with QuickMerge to obtain the final genome sequence. The open-ended experiment module described herein may greatly improve students' interest in microbial genome research, and their skills and knowledge related to the same, by enriching the teaching content and improving the quality of teaching.
