Research on the Professional Development for Teachers of Minority Languages in Local Colleges and Universities under the Background of “The Belt and Road Initiative”

Abstract: Local colleges and universities are an important part of higher education in China. However, due to the influence of such factors as the geographical location and the source of administrative funds, the minority languages in local colleges and universities are in a relatively disadvantaged position. The proposal of "The Belt and Road Initiative" highlights the importance of minority language education. In this context, it is of great significance to study the professional development for teachers of minority languages in local colleges and universities. This paper, after thorough literature researches and taking the actual local situations into consideration, adopts the combined research methods to clarify the significance of the research on the professional development for teachers of minority languages in local colleges and universities under the background of The Belt and Road Initiative. It analyzes the factors that influence the professional development of those teachers from the aspects of internal causes such as teachers' professional emotion, their own professional knowledge structure and reflection on teaching, and external causes such as education institutions’ location, teachers’ working environment and social environment. Finally, the paper discusses the corresponding feasible measures.
