Abstract: As a kind of discourse resource, interactional metadiscourse plays a crucial role in identity construction. This paper takes Hyland's five categories of interactional metadiscourse as the theoretical framework and the transcripts of 10 conversations between counselors and students as the research basis to explore how college counselors use specific interactional metadiscourse to construct specific identities in different teacher-student interaction contexts. It is found that college counselors use interactive interactional metadiscourse to construct professional identities (ideological and political educators and daily education managers) and non-professional identities (individuals and friends) in the process of teacher-student interaction, so as to achieve a harmonious teacher-student relationship and further promote the effective implementation of work.
