Abstract: The main objective of the application-oriented universities is to cultivate students'practical and innovative abilities. When exploring the teaching reform paths of the professional foundation courses, application-oriented universities are necessary to not only focus on the characteristics of the curriculum, but also start from the educational goals of application-oriented universities, so as to meet the training requirements of industrial development for complex talents. Through teaching research and exploration, the path of teaching reform was determined, including: clarifying the position and role of curriculum in the teaching system, guiding students to construct the professional knowledge system, enriching teaching models, flexible assessment forms, etc. These teaching reform modes can improve teaching effectiveness, improve the enthusiasm of students and innovative ability to further establish the overall concept of engineering. The practice of two teaching cycles has shown that, the teaching reform mode of the pump and compressor course has effectively improved the quality of teaching related reform measures are expected to assist in the construction of the personnel fostering syste in application-oriented universities.
