Abstract: This paper proposes a comprehensive cultivation for the theory & practice abilities of intelligent ships based on the three crosses method in the context of the new engineering. With the ideas of subject cross, guidance cross, and application cross, this model provides a feasible solution for the cultivation of high-level talents in the intelligent ship industry. First of all, this paper proposes a communicative education model based on the interdisciplinary integration of automatic control, ship, and ocean engineering, including the establishment of interdisciplinary courses, the implementation of interdisciplinary research projects, the organization of interdisciplinary internships, and the construction of interdisciplinary teams. Second, it presents a new teaching method in the new engineering that combines the guidance from both internal teachers and external experts, integrating the excellent theoretical teaching forces from academia and industry to cultiuate students theoretical research capabilities. Finally, it introduces a practice teaching method in the new engineering that involves the cross between simulation and experiment platforms. By collaborating with industry, the existing ship virtual simulation systems and experimental ship platforms are transformed to provide students with a practical environment and enhance their practical abilities.
